Jamiu (Abbey) Opoola, CPA

Jamiu "Abbey" Opoola is the Budget Specialist for the Harte Research Institute for the Gulf of Mexico Studies (HRI) at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. He works closely with the Assistant Director to perform budget preparation and analysis, cost allocation, post-award management for grant and contract accounts; monitor and review transactions on an ongoing basis to derive budgets, expenses, and future encumbrances; as well as produce monthly account summaries for all active accounts. Prior to joining HRI, he was a Graduate Assistant on research and financial analysis with the Division of Research and Innovation at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.

Abbey received his master’s degree in accounting from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and was named the outstanding graduate for summer 2019 for his outstanding academic performance, research engagement and community involvement. He also has a bachelor’s degree in Finance from University of Ilorin, Nigeria in 2014, where he graduated as the best graduating student in Finance.
