Lalitha Asirvadam is the Technical Coordinator for the Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative Information and Data Cooperative (GRIIDC).  She works with scientists around the Gulf in order to facilitate data sharing and promote a culture of open data.

In 2014 Lalitha earned an interdisciplinary Master's degree from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in Marine Biodiversity and Conservation at the University of California San Diego. Lalitha’s graduate work focused of mangrove conservation and its role in coastal resilience on the Caribbean nation of Curaao.  Lalitha previously worked at the University of Texas Marine Science Institute as Program Coordinator for the Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative’s research consortium DROPPS. She was also the Outreach Coordinator and Data Manager for the group.

Before receiving her Master’s, Lalitha worked in environmental consulting on a variety of projects with clients such as AT&T, Wal-Mart and the City of Austin. Previously, she was a Project Manager at the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality in the Remediation Division where she primarily managed leaking petroleum storage tank cleanup sites. Lalitha began her journey into earth sciences when she received her Bachelor’s degree in conservation geography and marine science at the University of Texas at Austin.
