Dr. Quinn McColly is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the HRI Socio-Economics Group who is continuing the research he engaged in while earning his Ph.D. in Coastal and Marine System Science with his dissertation titled Market Mechanisms and the Efficient Allocation of Water. Using artificial intelligence, he models water prices to inform developing markets and to build other financial tools to help burgeoning water markets. Quinn combines his professional and academic experience to evaluate the role that market mechanisms can play in restorative and conservation efforts. He came to the Harte after a long stint in the world of finance, working as a floor trader on the Chicago Stock Exchange for a decade before moving laterally into an advisory position. He earned his master’s degree at TAMU-CC in Environmental Science after defending his thesis Evaluating the Interest of Voluntary Buyers in an Ecosystem Services Exchange. During his undergraduate work at Indiana University and Columbia College, he studied liberal arts with concentrations in environmental studies, history, and philosophy.

He plans to continue to explore creative conservation finance strategies, is excited about the opportunity to operationalize his research, and is motivated by his desire to brighten the future for the children of today, and tomorrow.
